Michael Eric Williams details a sustained campaign of defamation and harassment by his sister, Melissa Williams-Brown. This included filing dismissed legal petitions in Nashville and publicizing sensitive personal information. These actions were intended to undermine Williams’s character and professional opportunities through the exploitation of public records and digital platforms.
The conflict escalated to include the harassment of legal counsel and the unauthorized acquisition of academic transcripts. Williams addresses these events to highlight the risks of digital impersonation and data exploitation. Michael continues his advocacy work in institutional reform, emphasizing the importance of truth and resilience against online harassment.

For more than two decades Melissa Williams-Brown has gone to extraordinary lengths to spread falsehoods about me
What might seem like private discord has, in reality, become a public assault. Melissa lives across the planet in Adelaide, Australia, yet her words have reached me here in Nashville, Tennessee. This has not been a matter of family disagreement or occasional conflict. It has been a sustained campaign designed to impugn my character, sabotage my opportunities, and undermine my ability to succeed in life.
The internet has erased distance, giving her false statements permanence and global reach. They echo far beyond our family, lingering in search results, circulating in communities, and casting shadows over my professional and personal life.
My identity, academic history and personal information were accessed without consent. The intrusion wasn’t random—it was deliberate. As a professional who advocates for institutional accountability, I have chosen to speak out not only to protect myself but to help others recognize the warning signs of digital impersonation and data exploitation.
Narrative of Harassment
Initiation of Baseless Claims (General Sessions Court, Nashville Tennessee) The harassment began with the filing of a petition for an Order of Protection in the General Sessions Court of Davidson County, Tennessee (Case #17OP2152)
By filing frivolous court petitions across different global jurisdictions, the adversary sought to permanently attach damaging, fabricated narratives to the target’s public identity.
In the filing, the Petitioner, Melissa Barbara Williams (also known as Melissa Barbara Williams-Brown) and a resident of Hawthorndene South Australia, placed specific and invasive personal details about me into the public record. This included listing my employment status as “Unemployed” — a detail that could be construed as an attempt to negatively impact my professional reputation—and describing identifying physical marks, such as a “scar down middle abdomen” and “tracheotomy scar”. One of the most alarming aspects of this case is how the adversary transitioned from online falsehoods to exploiting official public records. The briefs explicitly state that the Nashville judicial system was “weaponized” to legitimize a defamation campaign.
Dismissed as a baseless attempt at legal harassment

The petitions deliberately inserted deeply invasive, highly specific personal details into the public record—such as referencing physical medical scars (a tracheotomy) and falsely labeling the victim as “unemployed.” Melissa Williams-Brown’s explicit goal was to compromise the victim’s future professional opportunities. When these court petitions failed, the harassment expanded to target the victim’s legal counsel in a direct attempt to sabotage my professional defense and legal representation Cynthia Sherwood.
Escalation and Refusal to Accept Dismissal

As noted, this initial petition was reviewed by the General Sessions Court and was dismissed in my favor signaling that the court found insufficient grounds to sustain the Order of Protection at that level.
Dragging Out the Process

Rather than accepting the lower court’s dismissal. Melissa Williams-Brown went to significant lengths to prolong the legal conflict by elevating the matter to a higher court. This action forced the scheduling of a new hearing, requiring you to appear again in court. The Circuit Court Clerk issued a notice on August 3, 2017, setting a hearing for August 15, 2017, before Special Master Dana Ballinger. Melissa Williams-Brown was a no show at court and the case was thrown out again.

After exhausting all means to harass me via the court systems, Melissa Williams-Brown began to harass Michael’s attorney, Cynthia Sherwood. It was her last pathetic attempt to insert herself into my life and wreak havoc.

“We briefly met at the court hearing in July when my case against Michael Williams was dismissed. He obviously picked a good attorney. I’m sure this e-mail is highly unusual, seeing as how Michael is your client, but want you to be aware of exactly what your client is doing and if you choose to represent him, that’s your prerogative.’

Why This Case Matters
Despite this relentless campaign, I refuse to be defined by lies. My career in counseling, advocacy, and reform is built on truth, empathy, and service. I have dedicated myself to helping others navigate trauma, addiction, and institutional injustice — work that requires integrity and compassion. Melissa’s attempts to destroy my reputation have only strengthened my resolve. I continue to write, to advocate, and to serve, knowing that my identity is not determined by falsehoods but by the impact I make in the lives of others.
Ultimately, truth and resilience remain the most potent counter-narratives to digital character assassination. By exposing the mechanisms of online harassment and demanding rigorous verification standards, we can begin to build a digital environment where human dignity takes precedence over viral destruction.
